I have recently recovered a Administrator Password on Server 2008 R2 last week. so I tested it at home with my Windows 7 Laptop and works like a charm.

Prerequisite

1. Windows media for the OS you are trying to recover the Administrator password.

2. Follow my steps given below :)

Reboot the Server or your system with the right media CD/DVD and select the appropriate language.

<a href="https://quraishi.files.wordpress.com/2012/11/1-boot-from-cd-1.jpg"]]> I have some steps to explain you how to do it! Click Next and select Repair my Computer

The next screen will will identify all the windows installations and highlight in my case Windows 7 which is installed on C: drive select Next

Select the Command Prompt

Follow the steps given in the Command window bellow:

switch to Windows\System32 and copy Utilman.exe Utilman.exe.bak ( this is just to create a backup file of Utilman.exe)

then the most important step Copy cmd.exe to Utilman.exe as shown below copy cmd.exe Utilman.exe then you will get a prompt say yes by ‘y’

You should see a confirmation that one file copied

Restart the Server or in my case Laptop.

Copy cmd.exe over Utilman

Once the Server/ Laptop is rebooted press Windows key + U or click on the icon of Utilman, and you will see the command prompt.

give the following command to change the administrator password

net user administrator * (if your administrator account is renamed you can give that user name as I have given Ibrahim.quraishi below)

you will asked the enter the password ( the characters will not appear but dont worry as it will not show for security)

yo will be asked to reenter the password again as a confirmation.
Then you should be able to use the new password which you have set for the Administrator to login to the server.

 Hi Guys,

Since few months I have been using Release Candidate of Windows 8, and decided to Switch to the Release Preview Evaluation Build 8400 recently, I have to admin that, Microsoft improved a lot of features from RC edition. Hence why I decided to write this post about my views.

Some important fact's Microsoft has changed a lot of stuff from the the traditional Windows OSes. I guess as Windows 8 is also a Tablet OS they wanted to bring a big change in it.

First of all let me remind you that Windows 8 is still build on the existing Windows 7 which has proved to be robust. Unlike Vista which non of the enterprises bothered to touch , However you will find it different in many ways as , its way smarter then Windows 7. (Honestly I am not kidding!!!)

You no longer have programs its all about ‘App’s ‘. (don’t worry they are just renamed to App’s)

Don’t be surprised if you cant see the start menu as the old Window XP or the existing Win 7, its been changed to the new tile’s look which gives you live content, example I have my email, and like twitter, facebook, linkedin etc.. at one convenient place social network HUB and it has all the current live updates running. So … I don’t need to login to check what my mates are up to I can see that at a glance.

I have been testing it on my laptop which has Core 2 Duo Intel Processor and 6 Gig of Memory, and I have done a lot of testing on it and loved the way it works.

[caption id="attachment_609" align="alignleft" width="604"] Start Menu[/caption]

You can see very detail information when you are copying files. starting from the disk utilization and memory to CPU and most loving feature that you can even pause a file you are copying.

The Task Manager is having a whole new look that, gives you more granular information then ever before.

you can narrow down process and check the Memory, CPU, Disk and Network performance from the Perf Mon tool.
I am also using Windows Server 2012 which is going to be the server sided OS along with Windows 8. It has got the same layout and features of Windows 8 or vise verse I suppose.

As you can see below the Disk Utilization and other disk parameters ..

[caption id="attachment_608" align="alignright" width="604"] Disk Utilization[/caption]

Below you can see the Network Utilization on my Wi-Fi Home network.

You can check a cool demo of Windows 8 on Microsoft’s website click the link below and if you like it you can download the Release Preview Edition:

https://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-8/release-preview

[caption id="attachment_611" align="alignright" width="604"] Network Utilization[/caption]

Currently I also testing the Beta version of Server 2012, I spent few hours testing the SCCM2012 installation on it and it works like a charm. I have already posted the process of Installing the SCCM 2012 previously, Once I get some time I will post my views on Windows Server 2012.]]>
