<p>What is VMware Memory Management?</p>

<p> Benefits of Memory Management ?</p>

<p>Disadvantages of over-committing host memory?</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Different types </h2>

<p>Transparent Page Sharing (TPS) </p>

<p>Ballooning </p>

<p>Memory compression </p>

<p>Swapping </p>

<p><strong>Transparent Page Sharing (TPS)</strong>: Transparent Page sharing shares memory pages on the same or across multiple VMs running on the same host. </p>

<p> </p>

<p><strong>Ballooning: </strong>Ballooning: can be used when we have VMware Tools running Can cause performance increase or decrease as the Guest VM has to use its own memory technique swapping etc. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" width="919" height="508" data-attachment-id="15273" data-permalink="https://agileops.co.uk/vmware-memory-management/image-3-3/" data-orig-file="https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-3.png" data-orig-size="919,508" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="image-3" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-3-300x166.png" data-large-file="https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-3.png" tabindex="0" role="button" src="https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-3.png" alt="" class="wp-image-15273" srcset="https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-3.png 919w, https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-3-300x166.png 300w, https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-3-768x425.png 768w, https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-3-700x387.png 700w, https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-3-466x258.png 466w, https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-3-350x193.png 350w" sizes="(max-width: 919px) 100vw, 919px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Memory compression:</strong> Host compress the memory but this has an impact as the compressed memory takes longer time to get access read/ write. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image"><img decoding="async" width="800" height="439" data-attachment-id="15274" data-permalink="https://agileops.co.uk/vmware-memory-management/image-4-3/" data-orig-file="https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-4.png" data-orig-size="800,439" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;orientation&quot;:&quot;0&quot;}" data-image-title="image-4" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-4-300x165.png" data-large-file="https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-4.png" tabindex="0" role="button" src="https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-4.png" alt="" class="wp-image-15274" srcset="https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-4.png 800w, https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-4-300x165.png 300w, https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-4-768x421.png 768w, https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-4-700x384.png 700w, https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-4-466x256.png 466w, https://agileops.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/image-4-350x192.png 350w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p><strong>Swapping:</strong> Host swapping memory this is used as a last resort as can cause serious performance issues. The memory is written to the physical disk </p>
