Installing VMware vCenter Server 6.7 Update 2

Hi All,

In this post I am going to take you through installing vCenter server 6.7 step by step.

The vCenter server is deployed in 2 stages.

Stage 1

Stage 1 is deploying the VCSA appliance VM on the ESXi host or the vCetner you may have selected.

Stage 2 is the configuration part where you configure the ntp, SSO details and the sso password.

Mount the ISO then open the DVD drive

Select the folder vcsa-ui-installer

Open the folder vcsa-ui-installer

Open the win32 as i am using a Windows 10 laptop for deploying this vCetner.

Scroll to the bottom you will find installer.exe

Scroll to the bottom you will find installer.exe double click and launch the installation for vcsa

select install

you will find 4 options for fresh installation select install

Accept the terms of the licence and click Next

Accept the terms of the licence and click Next

Click Next

Give the IPaddress for the vCenter root password and then Click Next

Press Yes

This is the vm ( virtual machine ) name vcenter

for home lab or test or development select tiny deployment

select the datastore to deploy the vcsa.

give the ip-address, subnet mask, gateway and dns details

Confirm all the information is correct and click Finish.

Stage 2

Once the instillation of Stage 1 is complete click Continue to start the Stage 2.

Select the Stage 2 and click Next

My ESXi has ntp configured so i select the first option.

From the drop down select Enable for SSH Access to enable.

create a single sign on domain and select the SSO password

if we have an existing sso domain this is the time we integrate this new vcenter to the existing sso.( you will need to remember the sso password to add it )

Click Next

Go through the summary page and click Finish.

Once the Installation is compleate connect to the vCenter by typing the IPaddress in the web browser in my case 192.168.1.90

select Web client Flex

enter the login details

administrator@vsphere.local

password which was given at the time of installation.

We have now connected to the new vCenter Server.

Installing vSphere ESX 6.7 Update 2

Hi All,

In this post i am going to take you through the steps in installing and configuring the ESX host once the installation is completed I will show you how to add it to the vCenter Server.

for the purpose of the post i have done a nested ESX installation ( which is ESX running on a VM) below you will see a quick YouTube video on the installation. dont for get to subscribe to my YouTube channel as stay tuned for new videos.

I have also taken screenshots on for the installation process. I know sometime its quick to follow the screenshots as appose to going through the video.

Mount the ISO by browsing to the ISO or Mount it from the Datastore

Once the Installation is loaded Press Enter to Continue

Press F11 to Accept and Continue

Select the location to install the ESXi, i am installing on local disk press Enter to Continue

Select the Keyboard layout and press Enter to Continue

Press F11 to install

At this point the installation starts and you will the progress of the installation.

Once the installation is complete press Enter to Reboot.

Thats all you can now press F2 to login to the esx using the password you have set.

You will need to setup the Network configuration to static then add it to the vCenter. If you dont have a vCenter you can deploy one on this ESX server as this is the first one.

I will be posting about how to installing vCetner server in the coming days. however if you have got a vCetner installed this is how you can quickly add the new build host to the vCenter Server.

select Add Host

give the host name in my example the ip address 192.168.1.207 and click Next

give the user name root and password and click Next

You will see a pop up window for Security Alert for certificate click Yes to accept it.

Click Next

Select the Eval licence and click Next

leave the default setting and click Next

read the summary page and click Finish

After a few seconds you will see the vSphere ESX host appering in the cluster. you can put it on Maintenance Mode if you want to do further configuration on the Host.

Nested ESX 6.7 for Home Lab

Hi All today I have created a Youtube video on how to create a home lab its in 2 parts. the part one covers how to prepare your ESX host using commodity hardware Dell Optiplex 7010 for nested ESX.

The part 2 shows how install the vSphere ESX host on the Nested VM.

Part 2 Esxi Installation and add host to vCetner

I have also created screenshots of the full process which you can follow on this post below.

Right click and create a New Virtual Machine

Select Create a new virtual machine and click Next

Give a name to the VM and select the folder to install it and then click Next

Select the compute resource ie the ESX host where you want to run the VM. and click Next.

Select the Datastore and click Next

Leave the compatibility on the selected option ESXi 6.7 and later and click Next

Select Other and VMware ESXi 6.5 or later and Click Next

Note that running nested ESX is not supported by VMware hence why this should not be used for production work load.

Add more cpu cores and check Expose hardware assisted virtualization to the guest OS

This is a very important option if we don’t enable this we cannot install the OS.

Final summary page confirm everything is correct and click Finish
